Olivar de los Cerros
Jaén, Andalucía
About this farm
A picual olive grove on the southern hills of Jaén, producing early-harvest extra-virgin olive oil. The olives are picked while still green, between late October and November, and pressed within six hours at the estate's own mill. The oil is bottled unfiltered and delivered to shareholders as boxes of olive oil.
Story
The grove was planted by the Quesada family's grandparents in the 1950s, on old dryland plots across the Jaén hills. For decades they sold their olives in bulk to the village cooperative, until in 2009 the third generation built its own mill and began making its own extra-virgin oil. In 2016 they earned organic certification and started bottling under their own label. Today two siblings run the estate with a permanent team of four, expanded during the harvest season.
Farming practices
Certified organic farming with cover crops between rows to protect the soil, deficit drip irrigation, and integrated pest management using olive fly traps.
